Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How Many Projects Will I Work On?
A: Associates and Consultants work on multiple projects at any given time. Project management and prioritization will vary.

Q: What Training Will I Receive?
A: New Associate and Consultant hires complete a two-week training program designed to orient them in the healthcare industry and teach specific technical skills they will use on the job.  There are opportunities for training year-round.  Of course, the diversity and depth of on-the-job experience is the best training.

Q: How Much Will I Travel?
A: Travel to clients is an integral part of the work we do. Kickoff meetings, brainstorming sessions, and final presentations often require being onsite at a client. However, we don’t travel for the sake of travel.  Much of the work is done from our own offices instead of an on-site staffing model.

Q: Are There Opportunities for Continuing Education?
A: Artisan is committed to the continuing education and professional development of all staff members. Opportunities include weekly presentations, staff-led seminars, conference attendance, and academic courses.

Example Case Interviews

Example Case #1: Your client is a small, US-based biotechnology company developing several novel compounds for rare diseases. They are considering whether to keep or out-license one early stage (Ph.1) asset for Batten Disease and would like your help in assessing the best approach. How would you go about helping them decide whether to (1) develop/launch alone or (2) license the drug to another company?

Example Case #2: Your client is a large pharmaceutical company whose leading respiratory drug has experienced a decline in sales over the last 3 quarters. They have come to you for help in understanding the performance dip. How would you tackle their question? What potential explanations might you have for them, and what solutions might you offer?

Example Case #3: Your client is a large pharmaceutical company with a highly successful branded oncology drug. Their drug is expected to lose patent protection in one year. The client has asked you to (1) predict what will happen to the drug’s profitability after this event and (2) identify any opportunities to maintain revenues. How would you approach their question, and what advice might you provide?

Best Practices for Case Interviews

  • Take notes.

  • Listen carefully and ask clarifying questions when necessary.

  • Approach the question (and your response) in an organized way. Don’t be afraid to ask for 1-2 minutes to thoughtfully consider your approach.

  • Explain your logic and approach.

  • Think creatively, but stay focused on the objective.

  • Showcase your quantitative skills (without a calculator).

  • Take your time.

  • Answer the question.
